MTN Nigeria, recently appointed Ernest Ndukwe, former Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC), as chairman-designate.
The development would see Ndukwe take over the reins on Monday, September 2, 2019, from Dr. Pascal Dozie, who has been leading of the telecoms company for about two decades.
According to a letter sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange by MTN, the information was passed as follows: “This is to inform The Nigerian Stock Exchange, (The Exchange), the investing public and other stakeholders that, following the expiration of their tenure and in compliance with applicable codes of Corporate Governance, the under-listed, Non-Executive Directors, are retiring from the Board, with effect from 2nd September, 2019.”
MTN Nigeria has grown in leaps and bound to, unarguably, become Nigeria’s biggest telecom firm, under the outgoing chairman. Dozie is stepping down, alongside five other directors.
Acknowledging the valuable contributions made by the outgoing Directors in the last two decades, Ferdinand Moolman, CEO, MTN Nigeria said, “On behalf of MTN Nigeria, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to our pioneering Chairman, Pascal Dozie and the outgoing Directors. Our journey, over the last 18 years, has been incredible and it would not have been possible, without the initial entrepreneurial spirit of our founding directors and their unfailing and dedicated support, for MTN Nigeria’s vision, over the years. I could not have asked for a more supportive, knowledgeable and experienced group of advisors.”
Dr Pascal Dozie, who spoke, on behalf of the outgoing directors said, “Having served as Chairman of MTN Nigeria for all those 18 years, I achieved a long-held ambition, earlier this year, when MTN Nigeria listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, providing an opportunity for a wider pool of Nigerians, to become investors in the company. I cannot think of a better time to be handing over the reins of the company to a new Chairman and to a new group of distinguished Nigerian Directors.”
MTN Nigeria also appointed Muhammad Ahmad, former Nigerian Pension Regulatory Chief, Omobola Johnson, ex-minister for Communication Technology, Ifueko Okauru, former Chairman, FIRS and Andrew Alli an ex-banker, who, once represented the International Finance Corporation, to MTN Nigeria’s board.
The new development, the board would consist of Dr. Ernest Ndukwe as the Chairman, Ferdinand Moolman, Chief Executive Officer, with Michael Onochie Ajukwu, Muhammad K. Ahmad, OON and as Independent Non-Executive Directors, with nine Non-Executive Directors, namely, Andrew Alli, Omobola Johnson, A.B. Mahmoud, OON, Ralph Mupita, Paul Norman, Ifueko Okauru, MFR, Jens Schulte-Bockum, Rob Shuter and Karl Toriola.
