With a successful run of the Ethereum community events in 4 Nigerian cities and Accra, Ghana, Francophone Africa finally held its first Ethereum event tagged ETHCameroon 2023 conference and hackathon.
ETHCameroon is a community of builders, educators, thinkers, designers, creatives, and entrepreneurs in Cameroon that meet periodically to share challenges, successes, and opportunities in the Ethereum and Blockchain space while building Web 3 solutions for the African continent.
ETHCameroon hosted its event on 25th November 2023, at JFN Univeristy, Douala, with the theme, “Building Decentralized Tools for Sustainable Development”.
The 3-day event brought together more than 150 participants from different countries and over 600 online participants, covering a wide range of topics, including Zero Knowledge Proofs, Layer 2, DeFi, Digital Identity, Crypto Art, security, and more.
The ETHCameroon team led by Cyrile Teukam, Asang Nehemiah and Junie delivered the opening address.
The first speaker session centred its discussion around, “Success Story and Blockchain Profession”, including Sabi Yarou, Carl Beas, and Elvis Konjoh with Junie Maffock moderating the session.
The first panel discussion moderated by Gilles Makongue had Sabi Yarou, Christian Mwdugang, Nzangue, Enoch and Steve speak on, “Impact of Blockchain in Africa: Pros, Cons and Application”.
The second panel session discussed, “Fraud, Regulation, Policy and Technical Constraints”. Cyril Teukam moderated it with speakers including Carlos Wafo, Joel Feupoussi, Privat Ndoutoume, and Yvan Fotso.
In addition, Enoch Mbaebie, the Regional Lead, of Filecoin Orbit Africa and the Middle East, who was a supporting partner to the ETHCameroon event expressed his delight at not only the turnout of the participants but their sheer interest in blockchain technology and its use cases.
Enoch reiterated the Filecoin Orbit’s stance to support funding and training of young talents in Cameroon through collaboration with the ETHCameroon team while organizing workshops across other higher institutions and reaching out to storage providers and blockchain developers.
