Edtech Startup d6 Group Secures Funding

Gauteng-based edtech startup, d6 Group, has secured an undisclosed investment to enhance product development and expand its services and company internationally.

Investors in the round include Knife Capital, NuState Ventures, and Hlayisani Growth Fund Stellenbosch.

Speaking on the funding and plans to scale operations, Willem Kitshoff, CEO, d6 Group, said, “We are extremely excited about our new investors because of their proven track record and ability to support tech businesses to scale internationally. We have a strong market footprint and technology foundation and with this new strategic investment support, we are now able to pursue our local, as well as international growth aspirations.”

According to reports, Knife Capital, Hlayisani, and NuState will be the majority shareholders as a result of the investment.

We liked that d6 wasn’t dependent on the investment from a cash flow runway perspective, but the funds will enable them to scale more rapidly. This is a high-growth business with an amazing product, recurring revenue and a huge addressable market.”

Founded in 2010, d6 Group is a cloud-based management and communication platform with offices in Gauteng and Pretoria.

It offers School Management Software and communication applications to educational institutions as well as businesses and communities, managing all of their operations and conducting complete communication between schools, parents, and students.

d6 Group has three divisions: d6 business, d6 education and d6 media, and serves over 2800 schools in South Africa and beyond by providing innovative solutions via the use of technology, comprehensive consultation via various training initiatives, and quality support and guidance.

Its innovative technology includes:

  • d6 School Communicator which is a comprehensive communication tool between school and parents
  • d6+ which is a fully integrated cloud-based system that covers school curriculum, finance, communication and administration
  • d6+ Communication module & Cashless tool which enables parents to make payments via the d6 Connect application.
