Nigeria has recorded the second death, from coronavirus, as the number of cases has now increased to 131.
This was disclosed, by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC announced, Monday evening, March 30, 2020. The NCDC stated that, Twenty, (20), new cases were recorded on Monday.
The Twenty, (20), new cases were said to have been recorded, in, (3), States in the Federation and the Federal Capital, Abuja.
The Federal Capital, Abuja, recorded Four, (4), new cases, while Lagos State recorded Thirteen, (13), new cases, with Kaduna and Oyo States recording Two, (2), and One, (1), new cases, respectively.
One notable disclosure is that, the number of cases discharged has now increased from Three, (3), cases as at Sunday, March 29, 2020, to Eight, (8), by Monday, March 30, 2020, as Five, (5), cases were discharged on Monday.
This has further confirmed the claim that, contracting the coronavirus is, not a death sentence, after all.
Cases, however, needs to go into intensive care, for treatment, to survive the effects of the virus.
The question, however, remains, as to how many cases can be accommodated by the medical facilities and team in Nigeria.
Of the 131 COVID-19 cases in Nigeria now, Lagos State has recorded Eighty- One, (81), cases, while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has recorded Twenty-Five, (25), cases.
Oyo State has recorded Eight, (8), cases. Cases in Ogun State remains at Three, (3), with the cases in Kaduna State increasing to Three, (3), cases. Bauchi, Edo, Enugu and Osun States also, remains at two, (2), cases each, while Benue, Ekiti and Rivers State have recorded one, (1), case each.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has, become the third sitting Governor in Nigeria to test positive, for coronavirus. He made this known on his Twitter handle, on Monday evening, March 30, 2020.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate” Governor Makinde tweeted.
The Governor has also, designated the former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, to take charge of the COVID-19 Task Force in the State.
“I have designated Professor Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force, while I recover fully. Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe”, Governor Makinde concluded.
The lockdown announced by President Muhammadu Buhari, in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as Lagos and Ogun States, took effect from 11:00 pm on Monday, March 30, 2020. We wait to see the compliance level.
