The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has officially written to the Senate on the reappointment of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, for a second term of five years, as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
CFAmedia.ng gathered from a reliable source that the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, shared this at plenary at the Senate, this afternoon, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, as he read President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter of request, for the screening and confirmation of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for a second term.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa. Ali. Pantami, had early last month, June 2020, recommended the reappointment of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for a second term tenure.
This is in accordance with the NCA Act, 2003, which allows for a second term tenure for the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
By writing to the senate to screen Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, it means that President Muhammadu Buhari endorses the recommendation of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa. Ali. Pantami on giving Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta another five year term.
Danbatta hails from Danbatta Local Government Council of Kano State. He holds a BEng as well as MSc degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw in Poland and a PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK.
He was the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil. Until his appointment as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC in 2015.
It is expected that the Senate will confirm him, as he performed well at the Commission, during his first tenure as Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
