Brown and Ayo secures $276k funding in SA

Brown and Ayo, an online haircare platform has secured US$276,000 from Enygma Ventures, a female-focused VC firm.

The platform is a lifestyle brand with a focus on natural hairstyles and trends for South African black women.

Brown and Ayo since it was founded in 2019 has provided varieties of natural hair extensions similar to black natural hair textures.

Brown– a nod to the melanin God has blessed us with.

Ayo– The Yoruba word meaning joy; it’s how we feel about our brown skin, kinky coily hair and African heritage.

The lifestyle brand platform offers in vogue products to black women in South Africa.

“We created Brown & Ayo because we wanted one place online where we could find all the natural hair extension styles we loved!”, a statement reads on its website

Enygma Ventures whose focus is an investment in female entrepreneurs in the SADC region has supported Brown and Ayo with its recent funding.

Speaking on this secured funding, Acanda Jaswa, Founder of Brown and Ayo:

“We are overjoyed about our partnership with Enygma Ventures which provides both financial and strategic support. This will allow us to execute on our vision to scale across Africa and globally,”

Jaswa further stated that being a black female founder, her chances of securing VC funding appears low, however, she expressed her delight after getting support from Enygma Ventures
