The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has extended the applications to its 2021 ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) from March 9 to April 6 for Kenya/Middle East and Africa; and May 3 for the U.S./Americas.

What’s ISHOW about?

The ASME Innovation Showcase is a prestigious global hardware accelerator open to individuals and organizations in Africa, the Middle East, and the U.S./Americas.

The initiative focuses on providing innovators with accessible platforms for capacity building, expert engagement, and co-design of scaling strategies suited for the new normal, ensuring their success through the COVID-19 global crisis.

The ISHOW events are hosted in Africa, India, and the USA, and applications are accepted across the globe.

Since its launch to date, the program has enabled over 160 startups from more than 28 countries to solve critical quality-of-life challenges for people in underserved communities worldwide.

ISHOW alumni have designed affordable innovative devices to address issues such as fetal health, food waste prevention, grain moisture meters, clean combustion, health diagnostics, safe drinking water, and crop threshing, and many more that are in line with the United Nations’ SDGs.

To this, ASME Executive Director, Tom Costabile said, “We are proud to offer a forum for engineering problem-solving that truly improves lives. We are continually impressed by the creative talent of ASME ISHOW participants and their passion for helping underserved communities around the world.”

Every year, ASME ISHOW matches up to 30 selected innovators to a panel of judges and experts including academics, designers, engineers, investors, successful entrepreneurs, academics, engineers, designers, investors, and industry representatives from leading organizations in Kenya, India, and the United States.

2021 finalists will participate in regional events held virtually on April 29 for India/Asia Pacific (ISHOW India), June 3 for the Middle East and Africa (ISHOW Kenya), and July 15 for the Americas (ISHOW USA). Three companies at each event will join the ISHOW 2021 cohort.

What do I benefit from?

Finalists of the program will receive:

  • A share of $200,000 in seed grants,
  • Extensive and customized design and engineering review by experts
  • Product exposure
  • Technical insights and design services through ISHOW’s rigorous methodology,
  • Access to marketing and business development assets
  • Opportunity to earn a second round of seed grants from ASME and
exhibit their innovations in the Tech Gallery at ASME’s annual Impact.Engineered forum

ASME is supported by The Lemelson Foundation with a three-year strategic investment and to ISHOW implementation partners around the globe.
