Tech Trends show on Channels Television showcased the recently promulgated Cybercrime Act 2015 by engaging Basil Udotai, the Managing Partner at Technology Advisors, on a discussion on this new law that seeks to protect Nigerians from the ever-escalating threat of cyber crime. The discussion was absolutely educative and well-placed.  It began with showcasing some of the critical areas addressed by the act. The discussion brought to light, some of the practical enforcement challenges that the law may face.

As the show progressed, it was learnt that, though, the Act directly affects Nigerians, the awareness levels of its existence are still very low, even among prominent dignitaries and tech enthusiaists in the country. Basil was only too real as he talked about the Act’s application to the general public as well as what Nigeria should be doing to protect her citizens.

Several specific issues about the Act, such as the Cyber Security Fund, hit particularly close to home as Basil offered some recommendations that legislators might want to consider in case they are thinking of an amendment. This episode is available for viewing here.
