The Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Challenge is the joint initiative of the US African Development Foundation (USADF) and All On which is held annually.
As part of a multi-year partnership, the program aims to identify and help accelerate innovative off-grid solutions, boosting power supply in unserved and underserved communities in Nigeria.
The nine Nigerian startups that emerged winners at the third edition of the Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Challenge are:
Allbase Global Technology, Covenant Plus, Reeddi Technologies, Ashdam Solar Company, Green Acres Microfinance Bank, Salpha Energy, Solarworld Alternative Energy Resources, Sunhive Limited, and Vesselnet Integrated Services Limited.
The finalists of the Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Challenge will receive $25,000 in grant capital from USADF, US$25,000 from All On through its support from the Rockefeller Foundation via the All On Hub, as well as $50,000 in convertible debt from All On.
Also, the winners will be given technical support from USADF and governance support from All On to enable them to make impactful contributions, thereby improving the country’s renewable energy sector.

Allbase Global Technology
Founded in 2020 by Kunle Odebunmi, Allbase Global Technology is a cleantech company that is deploying the Internet of Things (IoT) to address the power needs of communities in Africa as well SMEs across the continent.
The goal of this startup, in the words of its founder, is “to make carbon-free energy available to every African at the lowest cost possible; aiding the energy transition, contributing to the realization of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 7) and building a clean, sustainable and resilient Africa future.”
Ashdam Solar Company
This Oyo-based renewable energy company is a supplier of clean, affordable, and uninterrupted smart energy solutions in Nigeria.
Co-founded by Damilola Asaleye in 2007, Ashdam Solar Company provides quality, customized energy solutions to clients ranging from individuals, SMEs, government ministries, NGOs, to churches and other institutions.
CovenantPlus Engineering Limited
A Lagos-based high-tech firm, CovenantPlus Engineering Limited specializes in the design, supply, installation, and maintenance of projects in various fields of engineering.
Incorporated in 2002, CovenantPlus offers modern technical and professional services to its clients including leading telecommunication companies, corporates, governments, and NGOs.
Greenacres Microfinance Bank Ltd
Owned by a team of seasoned investors and technocrats, Greenacres Microfinance Bank has been in operation since 2008.
The core missions of this company are to reduce poverty, provide individual and community empowerment, particularly rural women through the granting of micro, small, and medium loans.
Reeddi Technologies
Founded by Olubanjo Olugbenga in 2018, Reddi Technologies is a provider of clean, reliable, affordable energy.
By integrating smart data harvesting and analytics technology, the startup is able to supply electricity to individuals and businesses operating in energy-poor regions.
The startup aims to make sustainable energy available and affordable to every African no matter their income level.
Salpha Energy
Launched in 2017, Salpha Energy addresses a market need for energy by providing clean and affordable solar energy products while ensuring a timeless energy partnership with its clients.
Solarworld Alternative Energy Resources
An indigenous engineering company founded in 1993, Solarworld Alternative Energy Resources deploys a power solution that is designed to convert solar energy during the day to electrical energy (DC) and later covert the store DC energy to AC energy.
It specializes in the design, supply, and installation of power solution systems such as Inverter, Hybrid solar, or Standalone solar power solution systems as an alternative source for constant electricity supply.
Sunhive Limited
This energy company, started by Gbenga Kogbe and launched in 2015, focuses on developing, engineering, and operating Solar PV in Nigeria. Leveraging technology, this company is on a mission to energize and accelerate productivity growth across Africa.
Vesselnet Integrated Services Limited
Incorporated in 2007, Vesselnet provides services in information communication technology, the telecommunication industry, and the alternative energy solution sector.
Its client base includes individuals, SMEs, tower companies, government agencies, Internet Service Providers (ISP), Mobile Network Operators (MNO), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
