In a move aimed at ensuring the adoption of .ng domain names across the country, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has expressed willingness to engage new registrars to galvanize the processes.
NIRA said as it prepares for the last quarter of Registrars’ forum organized by NiRA scheduled to hold at 11:00 am on the 2nd of December 2016 at NiRA Office Complex, 8 Funsho Williams Avenue, Iponri Surulere, Lagos State.
NiRA being the manager of .ng country code Top Level Domain operates the 3R model of operation; that is, Registry Registrar Registrant mode of exploitation.
NiRA does not register domain names directly to the registrant, who are the end users.
Because of the business model and relationship adopted, NiRA holds the quarterly Registrars’ Forum with the aim of physically interacting with the Registrars.
This helps to foster closer working relationship and provides opportunities for both NiRA and its Accredited Registrars to understand the business thrust.
Both NiRA and the Accredited Registrars communicate their challenges of activities, discuss and proffer solutions. Of course, several online discussions are conducted on the domain name industry and the trends in the domain name business.
NiRA continues to accredit new Registrars as the applications are being received and evaluated.
The process of becoming a NiRA accredited registrar can be found on NiRA website
