Three Thousand, One Hundred And Forty-Five, (3,145), COVID-19 cases, were recorded in Nigeria, as updated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
The update, also, showed that, of the total number of cases recorded, One Hundred And Ninety-Five, (195), new cases, were recorded yesterday.
Five Hundred And Thirty-Four, (534), cases have been discharged, while the number of deaths recorded is, One Hundred And Three, (103).
The number of current active cases, in Nigeria, is Two Thousand, Two Hundred, Five Hundred And Eight, (2,508).
The number of samples tested so far in Nigeria stands at Twenty-One Thousand, Two Hundred And Eight, (21,208).
The One Hundred And Ninety-Five, (195), new cases, showed tha, Lagos State recorded Eighty-Two, (82), new cases, while Kano State recorded Thirty, (30), new cases, with Zamfara State recording Nineteen, (19), new cases. Sokoto recorded Eighteen, (18), new cases, while Borno State recorded Ten, (10), new cases, with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, recording Nine, (9), new cases.
Oyo State recorded Eight, (8), new cases, while Gombe and Kebbi States recorded Five, (5), new cases each, with Ogun State recording Four, (4), new cases. Katsina State recorded Three, (3), new cases while Adamawa and Kaduna States, have recorded One, (1), new case each.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, speaking in his capacity as the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, expressed his displeasure on how some truck drivers are concealing passengers in their trucks while bringing food items from the Northern parts of the country to the Southern parts.
This implies the systematic movement of people from the Northern to the Southern part of Nigeria and this portends the danger of spreading coronavirus.
Mustapha, therefore, called on the law enforcement agents to enforce the directives on the restrictions on interstate passenger movement. “The overall assessment of compliance, with the measures and the outcome of modeling, we have developed, point in the direction of danger ahead. We, therefore, need personal discipline, increased awareness and enforcement”, Mustapha stressed.
