SOSV invests in 150 startups every year via category-leading startup development programs, allowing them to develop and scale great plans for social change.
This year, three African startups have been chosen to participate in the 12th edition of the SOSV MOX accelerator, where they will get up to $150,000 in cash and individualized support.
The chosen startups are:
Badili is a smartphone and consumer electronics “re-commerce” platform. This company allows you to quickly sell your phone and obtain the greatest money for it, as well as schedule a pick-up location and time that is convenient for you.
Badili AI calculates the best price for your old phone based on its age, physical condition, and functionality. There will be no haggling! There will be no bargaining.
It’s simple: set up a pick-up location and we’ll deliver right to your door. Badili will make certain that your information is never exploited in any way. Back up your data, and we’ll securely delete it all in accordance with industry standards.
Lipa Later (Kenya)
Lipalater is a shopping, e-commerce, and payment system that allows you to buy now and pay later.
The company has progressed from onboarding the top retailers where users may buy everything.
They want to constantly update their services based on user input to ensure that repayments are as straightforward and transparent as possible.
Lipa Later allows you to buy and use whatever you want while paying for it in monthly payments that are both reasonable and flexible.
This experience was made possible by the startup’s collaboration with retailers in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Rwanda.
Treepz is a bus-hailing service that provides commuters with convenient, dependable, and safe transportation.
The startup’s innovative solution aims to disrupt and vastly improve the transportation system while also addressing some of its long-standing issues.
This innovative idea will have a significant impact on the transportation industry. It will provide jobs for vehicle drivers, vehicle helpers, and vehicle maintenance employees, as well as a better and safer transportation system for daily commuters in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
Treepz helps you strategize your Travel Treepz (city-to-city travel) better so you may save time and money. Travelers can use its app to book the cheapest Daily Treepz (in-city) rides in the city.
The MOX initiative is targeted at startups building mobile solutions for the next four billion internet users and is centered on software.
Aside from the US$150,000 seed capital, each firm receives a six-month program that includes a specialized salesforce, growth-oriented technology, and a close-knit cross-border fraternity.
The entrepreneurs chosen for this cohort, according to William Bao Bean, general partner at SOSV, inspire them with their creative and innovative spirit, their bravery in the face of adversity over the last two years, and their dedication to improving the world through technology.
He also mentioned that working with Promethean founders from all over the world has been a delight and that they are honored to be a part of their goal.
