One Hundred And Forty-Six, (146), new COVID-19 cases, were recorded in Nigeria, on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
This is update was given, by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC at the PTF briefing.
The update, also, showed that the total number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria, so far, amounted to Four Thousand, Seven Hundred And Eighty-Seven, (4,787)
Nine Hundred And Fifty-Eight, (959), of those cases, have been discharged, with One Hundred And Fifty-Eight, (158), deaths recorded.
The number of active cases in Nigeria is Three Thousand Six Hundred And Seventy, (3,670), cases.
Nigeria has, so far, carried out, Twenty Eight Thousand and Four Hundred And Eighteen, (28,418) tests, out of the estimated 200 million population of Nigeria, as at the time of the update.
The new cases recorded, shows that, Lagos State recorded Fifty-Seven, (57), new cases, while Kano States recorded Twenty-Seven, (27), new cases, with Kwara States recording Ten, (10), new cases.
Edo State recorded Nine, (9), new cases, while Bauchi State recorded Eight, (8), new cases, with Yobe State recording Seven, (7), new cases.
Kebbi and Oyo States recorded Four, (4), new case each, while Katsina and ans Niger States recorded Three, (), new cases each, with Benue, Borno, Plateau and Sokoto States recording Two, (2), new cases each.
Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Ogun and Rivers State, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, recorded one, (1), new case each.
The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha has, however, called on researchers to come up with homegrown vaccines and cure for COVID-19. This, he stated, at the PTF press briefing, yesterday evening.
He, however, stated that the researchers should be patient, after coming up with the drugs and vaccines, for these to go through the validation process to establish their safety and to avoid litigation.
“The PTF, as one of its mandates, has continued to promote research and wishes to repeat its appeal to all our researchers, to go through the validation process, so as to enable humanity to benefit from their hard work and they, in turn, benefit from the intellectual property rights associated with such research”, Mustapha stressed.
